How to Easily Install a Poll on Your WordPress Blog

Placing a poll on your blog is an excellent way to gather information from your readers. What types of posts would they like to see? Did they find this information helpful? But polls can also be a great way to engage your readers and have a little fun, too. Just because you’re providing valuable information doesn’t mean your blog always has to feel like a classroom.

Regardless of your niche, place a fun little poll in one of your posts and ask your readers what their favorite pizza is or who their favorite 80s band was. And then ask your readers to not only respond to your poll but to leave comments as well as to why they made that choice. People love being asked to express their opinions and sometimes the sillier the question the more attention you’ll attract. Some bloggers even place a weekly or daily opinion poll on their blog and readers can’t wait to see what the next question will be!

If you’ve been thinking of including a poll but you’re afraid you can’t figure out the coding, then here’s an easy solution for all you WordPress bloggers.

Sign up for a free account at . All you’ll need to do is supply your name and email address and you’re ready to go.

Then, go to your WordPress dashboard and download the PollDaddy Polls plug-in. Don’t forget to activate it.

When you activate the plug-in, you’ll get a page asking for your PollDaddy email address and password. Fill these in and click save and you can now create polls for your blog right on your dashboard – with no coding required.

Now each time you make a new blog post you’ll see a new button along the top of your screen where you’re entering the post. Where it says Upload/Insert, along the top, look for the round button in line with the buttons where you upload media and music files. By clicking that button, you can create a new poll specifically for that blog post and not have to code a thing.

You have several different styles to choose from and you can type in whatever text you want. After you’ve created your poll, just click on Send To Editor and the PollDaddy plug in takes care of the rest. With just a few clicks of the mouse, you’ve got a custom poll right in the middle of your blog post!

I find that I get better results from my polls if I include them directly in the blog post. A lot of readers come to your blog to read your current post and they’ve seen your sidebar so many times they don’t even pay attention to it anymore. So if you want to get a response out of them you need to put that poll right under their nose. And then don’t forget to tell them to feel free to explain their choice in your comments section so everyone can join in the fun.
