Basic Search Engine Optimization Revealed
Having been around Internet marketing for a number of years, I can tell you that there are some things that are simply shrouded in mystery and you may never be able to figure them out. That is, of course, what those who teach you those methods or take care of them for you would like to have you believe. A good example of this is search engine optimization and although many people would not touch their own SEO, the fact of the matter is that it is not all that difficult to do.
Search engine optimization can be broken down into two basic types, on page optimization and off page optimization. Understanding these two types and their place in the overall picture will help to open your mind to possibilities that you may not have even thought you could ever obtain. Here is a little bit about basic search engine optimization and after reading it, you’ll probably realize that it is all you really need to know.
On page optimization is fairly self-explanatory. It is optimizing your webpage for keywords and keyword phrases by including them on the page in key areas. Some of the most important places to include these keyword phrases would be the meta title tag, and H1 tag, toward the top of the page but beyond that, you would just include them naturally throughout the text of the page itself. You would also want to use supporting keywords as these may help you to rank higher or for a wider variety of terms.
Off page optimization is also self-explanatory but it does take a bit more of an explanation. This is the optimization that takes place off of your website and it can occur in a number of different ways. In a nutshell, however, it has to do with getting links back to your website so that your pages are seen as more “important” by the search engines. The way that you get the links, however, can make quite a difference.
One of the main things that needs to be taken into consideration when it comes to these incoming links is the text that is used for those links. If you are able to obtain 50 links into one of your pages that is about dog training and the link text is “dog training”, you are going to rank better than somebody who has 50 incoming links in which the link text is “click here”. You also want to make sure that you mix up the link text from time to time and don’t get too zealous, as this can also throw up a red flag.
The best way for you to get the off page optimization done properly is to provide good content that people are going to want to link to on their own. You will then get natural links and you can go about getting other links from a variety of different places and resources. Make sure that you work on this regularly, and your rankings will improve as a result.
